About Salt Therapy

StaminAir provides safe, non-invasive therapy for performance horses of all disciplines. This treatment helps enhance the overall health and efficiency of the equine respiratory system, which in turn facilitates improved cardiovascular performance.

The therapy is 100% natural, drug-free, and can be used during all competitions. Our dry aerosol delivery system was specially designed to provide Salt Therapy for horses. Our device micronizes pure mineral salt and then releases the compound into the mask or specially designed isolated room. The particle size and concentration are carefully monitored, and adjustments made in real time to ensure maximum benefits.

During a session, the horse effortlessly breathes micronized salt. The salt operates as an expectorant, accelerating mucus clearance and improving lung function, while also killing harmful bacteria and soothing the respiratory system.

Known Effects

Airway Management

Drawing out the mucus opens the airways and rids them of allergens and bacteria.

Oxygen Uptake

Efficient oxygenation of the blood and more effective removal of CO from the bloodstream.

Anti-Inflammatory

Benefits the irritated lining of the sinuses and lungs from the bronchi down to the alveoli. The salt therapy reduces inflammation, promoting healing, and enhancing the respiratory function of the equine, leading to improved overall health and performance.

Antibacterial

In many respiratory tract conditions, airways become narrowed and irritated, filling with mucus and bacteria through the mucus clearance, but salt, being a natural antibacterial agent, works to kill the respiratory tract.

Viscosity Shift

When the salt particles enter the sinus and lung cavities, it reacts with the mucus by decreasing viscosity and expelling it, cavities, it reacts with the mucus by decreasing viscosity and expelling.

Reduces Irritation

With its natural anti-inflammatory properties, the salt reduces tissue irritation and swelling, opening the airways for improved breathing and oxygen utilization.

Performance Boost

Treatments have improved the on and off track performances of many equine athletes in the world. Salt Therapy has shown lifelong well being and health benefits. Equine Salt Therapy is part of the training routine of many high profile competitors.

Travel Ready

Transport of horses by road and sea can make them susceptible to pleuropneumonia an infection that affects the lungs and pleural (chest) cavity in horses. Benefits equine when traveling to unfamiliar environments.

Clearance

Alleviates skin conditions such as dermatitis, boils, mud-fever and ringworm. Salt settles on the coat it is drawn into the skin. The salt then has an antibacterial affect which successfully treats skin conditions.

Benefits

Salt contains natural antiseptic and anti-inflammatory qualities. When horses breathe salt into their lungs it reduces the inflammation and congestion that cause airway restriction. Once clear, lung function improves. Advanced lung function results in more efficient oxygenation of the blood and more effective removal of CO2 from the bloodstream, which leads to increased stamina and reduced recovery time. In addition, the salt helps treat skin issues and overall inflammatory responses. Salt micro particles inhibit the growth or reproduction of bacteria reduce swelling, and ease inflammation throughout the horse’s body. The therapy results in pH normalization and better skin microcirculation. Because the treatment involves only 100% natural salt, it will not appear on drug tests and is therefore a completely safe, natural, and compliant way to improve a horse’s performance. Dry sodium chloride aerosol has a considerable level of negative charge of the particles (6-10 nK/m3). The inner surfaces of airways have a slight positive charge. Negatively charged particles of dry sodium chloride aerosol move in the lumen of the respiratory tract and settle more intensively compared to neutral particles. In addition, the negative charge increases aerosol stability. Thus dry aerosol action is much more effective than one that is moist.

Research on dry salt therapy

Dry saline aerosol therapy offers remarkable benefits for horses, particularly those suffering from respiratory conditions like mild equine asthma. Recent studies, such as the research by Condor et al. (2022), highlight that this therapy can significantly improve arterial blood gas parameters in affected horses, leading to better oxygenation and overall respiratory function. Supported by findings from experts at the Maxwell H. Gluck Equine Research Center, dry saline aerosol therapy has been shown to help manage inflammation and boost lung immunity. This innovative approach to equine respiratory care not only enhances lung function but also contributes to improved athletic performance and quality of life for horses.
